  1. This is really getting on my neves now...I am in the process of putting alot of old home-movies on VCD. I capture the video just fine w/ my Radeon AIW, but the trouble is editing. I'm not trying to do anything fancy, just cut out some parts, but the audio always gets out of sync. Here's how I do it:

Capture w/ AIW - into VCD compliant format (I've tested this, and it is VCD compliant)
Use TPMGenc to cut (merge & cut option)

The audio is always off by quite a bit on the new video which I cut. I don't want to have to fix the audio - I want to be able to capture, cut out the parts I want (or don't want), and have the audio work fine. How do all of you do this with out the need to correct audio sync? Any different software? I've been toying around with Broadcast2000 (bundled w/ Mandrake 8.1), has anyone used this? I'd prefer to edit in win2k, but I'll go linux if necessary.

I'm just getting into MPEG editing. I once heard that Womble did a good job at cutting MPEGs. Alas, it's quite expensive. I've tried a couple of programs that CLAIM they have frame-accurate editing of MPEG-2 files, but they don't. If someone knows of one, let me know.

The first workaround I've used is as follows: Create a series of AVI files with Flask at the least compression you have space for (I use Huffyuv). Open the first file with VirtualDub, then append the other files. Edit your video. Encode with TMPGEnc.

Hey..I didn't say this was a FAST process! It seems to work though.

  3. Womble Mpeg-vcr works well. the MPEG-1 version is $45, MPEG-2 version is $249.

  4. personally i think the merge and cut feature in TMPGEnc needs some work. when cutting an mpeg it is important to cut on an interlaced frame or you get exactly what you are experiencing, out of sync audio. with avi the frames that tie the audio and video together are called keyframes.

in the future i would recommend capping to avi and using VirtualDub for editing. then use TMPGEnc to convert the avi into mpg. so here is what to do with the stuff you have already capped. load it into VirtualDub and do your editing. if you hold down the shift key while working the slider in VD it will stay locked in on interlaced frames. look next to the time display and you will see a letter "I" inside brackets to let you know that it is an interlaced frame (letter "K" for keyframe when working with avi files). output an uncompressed avi file with VD once you finish your editing. then take that avi and run it through TMPGEnc to make a vcd compliant mpg.

hope this can be of some help

    peace out,

  5. I recently upgraded to MMC 7.5 and TMPGenc 2.02, and the audio-sync problems are gone. I can capture into VCD format and edit in TMPG without out-of sync issues. The quality isn't great, but it is tons faster than some other ways.
