If you're using Outlook Express (I think it's the same for Outlook as well), click on Tools, then Options. There's a Receipts tab. However, the recipient can also decline to option to send the receipt when they read the email depending on their email client.

well there is a way -- and it is used by lots of people that send spam ...

make up a html email and in it -- have a 1 pixel by 1 pixel gif file image link - that links back to your server (where the file is stored) and logs the date / time / ip of the emailed person ..

spammers use this to check if it is a valid email adress

if someone doesnt open the email - nothing is recorded on the server ..

a nicer way would be to just ask them ..

  10. Ironic, I was going to post something similar to this.

At work, we used to use Netspace Messenger but since the merge of Sympatico and MSN, we have migrated to using hotmail to access our sympatico accounts. Is there a way or a third party program to be notified when you receive an email in your hotmail inbox (a la, small envelope in the task bar in OE)?

hotmail will not let NEW users access hotmail account with outlook - on the free accounts ..

existing clients can keep this access ...

i think this takes effect now or really really soon ...

  12. No no .. what I mean is .. if I have my browser window (IE) open with my sympatico email account open from the hotmail site. Other than manually clicking on the inbox or mail to see if you have any emails, is there a program that would "automatically" detect there is an email and notify me?

Im pretty sure there isnt, but it never hurts to ask.

  14. Sadly, we have to use IE at work .. bleh! The reason why they made us migrate to msn was to save themselves server space. Now, the 3000 employees are not allowed to use OE or Netscape to store their emails, nor are we allowed to keep them on our PC's. Everything is kept on the hotmail servers. I guess its good for them, less problems for them to deal with. But thats a different story.

Thanks anyway though, BJ_M. I'll do some searching around to find a proggie like that.

  18. I was actually going to try the same one. I'll try it at home first. I need to know before I install it at work, if it downloads the emails of the "X" (in this case hotmail) server to the C drive. If it does, I cant use it. As well, I would need it to "leave a copy on the server" anyway.
