  1. I have been doing DVD authoring for a couple of years
    now.
    Last week I bought a Centrum Gemini 350 DVD player which
    also plays DivX material.

    Question is, does one have to author a DivX CD/DVD ?

    What bitrates and sizes are most compatible for playing a
    DivX film in a stand-alone player ?

    No. Just burn it as data.

    Whatever it says in your player manual. There's no "universal" standard for AVI players like for DVD players to stick to.
    I'd really like to hear what you think of this player, as I'm planning on buying one as my current player (also a Centrum) is beginning to show problems with playing even commercial discs...
