I have an internal modem at the moment, and i was wondering is it possible to install an external modem, while leaving the internal modem attached, but still able to dial up from external modem? thanks

Yes.
When you setup your dialup details, you can also choose which modem you want.

Just curious, but why would you want to? I don't think you can connect both at the same time. There are some modems (shotgun) that can do this.

Yes you can! Windows 98 (not sure about XP) has a built in "shotgun" type of technology. It will allow a dual modem setup to double the bandwidth. You don't need to purchase a Diamond Multimedia Shotgun Express modem to do it.
Your ISP MUST allow multiple logins though, and not many do.
BTW, "Shotgun" is just the term coined by Diamond for their modem. ADSL technology has had piggybacking modem connections for years, but nobody uses it any more.Cheers, Jim
