I used DVD Decrypter, DVD2ONE and Record Now Max to back up my dvd's.....the last few, you can see the dark unused around the edge and I end up having to fast forward a few seconds to get to the beginning of the movie. Any ideas?

First, is this "unused" part at the outer edge, or the inner edge? As I recall (others will certainly correct me), the laser reads from the inner edge, where the circle is, toward the outer edge.

Now, when you state you had to fast forward for "a few seconds," how long is this sequence of "dead air"? Is it perhaps as long as 4, 5, 6, or even 7 minutes (if you do not fast forwardk, and just let the thing run at normal speed)?

Are these possibly recent releases of titles that are from Columbia, or from Sony Pictures, or one of their subsidiaries?

If so, then that dead space is one part of the new Sony ArCCos copy protection scheme. Other symptoms (which can be be found on some, but not on all of these recent discs) include a boy on a skateboard, a dancing boy, and certain unreferenced material and mistated file sizes.

There are cures. Do a search. Most people are simply checking before they burn, and making sure there is not the "wasted space" or "dead air" or "black nothingness" at the very beginning. If they find that it exists, they simply cut it out (delete this entire sequence). Some programs make that easier to do than others, and I do not use the software you referenced.

Search terms that might help: "Forgotten" "Resident Evil 2" "The Notebook" "Little Black Book" "Friday Nigh Fights" "Sony" "ARCCOS"

  4. This also happend to me with "The Forgotten".

I believe it has to do with the new copy protection (ARCCOS) on these DVDs.
Perhaps this is what DVD Decryptor puts in place of the bad sectors the companies are putting on the disc.

Your movies are in this list:
