  1. Hi, a couple of times now I have put posts up about this new type of copyright and would like to know once and for all if it's possible to get around it. So far the films it has been on are, resident evil 2, man on fire and layer cake. At present i'm trying to back up layer cake but it's not even decrypting it and if I try shrink it stops half way through the analysing and says the following:
dvdshrink encountered an error and cannot continue
    failed to read file e
overlapped i/o operation is in progress.

These are the following messages I receive with dvd decrypter:
W 20:10:32 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 20:10:32 7 areas have been marked as 'suspect'.
W 20:10:32 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.

Can someone please give me some advice.
    Many thanks.

    use LATEST anydvd.

And please use the search. Cake layer has recently been discussed.
And please post dvd to dvdr in the dvd to dvdr forum!

I finally forked over the $39 for AnyDVD after my free trial expired.

  4. Thanks. Can you confirm that anydvd is the software that runs in the background and also needs other software to be running at the same time. If so can I continue to use decrypter or do I need to install clonedvd as the guide says.
    Cheers.

  5. Runs in background, works with DVD Decrypter and/or DVD Shrink, and many others I'm sure. Works with CD's too. I haven't even tried CloneDVD.

Just to elaborate a bit, and to clarify...

DVD Shrink on its own cannot handle this new copy protection. If you run AnyDVD in the background, things will be fine. That part, I believe, is clear from the responses you already received.

Yopu also mentioned the messages you were getting in DVDDecrypter, though. IF you are using the latest DVDDecrypter, this program will rip the entire DVD to your hard drive with no problem. And, you do not need AnyDVD running along with it. Those messages you saw in DVDDecrypter were NOT error messages. They were merely informational messages, to let you know that this was one of "those DVDs" that has the new Sony ArCCos copy protection scheme. You can expect (later) to see repeated instances of a line that looks like this:

    "W 16:35:40 Sector 3402623 - Pack Header Not Found (0x00000000)"

which will finally terminate with messages that say:

W 16:35:40 Arrrrgggh! Too Many 'Pack Header Not Found' Errors!
W 16:35:40 'Pack Header Not Found' logging has been halted for now.
    W 16:35:55 Inserting Dummy Sectors... (LBA: 3406629 - 3468060)

At this point, DVDDecrypter will insert dummy sectors to replace the bad ones, and all should be well. The entire DVD will rip to the hard drive. Once there, of course, you can choose to burn it, or to re-author it using DVD Shrink, if you like, or any other program.

To quote the author of DVDDecrypter, "Those are NOT error messages."

  8. If you rip one of these Sony dvd's ("Little Black Book", for example) using the latest DVDDeCryptor in file mode, can CloneDVD2 then process the main movie video files properly? That doesn't appear to work - it fails when trying to access the portion of the vob's which had blocks inserted by DVDDeCryptor and complains about the program that created the files. Is this Elby (CloneDVD2) sending business to Slysoft (AnyDVD)?
Before someone asks - these exact files created by DVDDeCryptor work just fine in DVDShrink and burn just fine afterwards . . .

CloneDVD is really intended to work with AnyDVD, so I've always recommended running it like that.

  10. I expect Elby and Slysoft might see it that way also given their close personal and business ties and relationship.

However, it has never been a program flaw or limiting factor on the customer's ability to use the CloneDVD2 software package - until now.

It's not that, per se. It's that AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter rip DIFFERENTLY, and with these new protections things are a little touchy... so if you want to make sure it will work, use AnyDVD/CloneDVD together at least for now until the ripping for Arccos has matured a bit.

  12. Actually DVDDeCryptor - DVDShrink - EMC7 work just fine. I want the best quality possible in the main feature. So I don't burn all the extras - only what fits without driving the main feature into transcoding. I like DVDShrink because it lets me decide how much compression to permit for each title to be burned, and it lets me sequence the extras to play in whatever order I want, and the ability to select "starting and ending frames" is terrific. CloneDVD2 doesn't seem to be able to do any of these things. These would be great features - in case Ollie ever comes in here to prowl around.
