Well truth be told I am the lazy one. I started my current job in March of 2005 but technically didn't become "full time" until August 1st 2005. I got 6 "personal" days this year anyways (that is the max all employees get for a full calendar year).

I've only used 2 of them so far but I used one on Tuesday then again yesterday and against my better judgement I called off again today. All of this under the "guise" of being "ill" ... my job is a phone job doing collections so if you are sick and your voice is "messed up" you can't really work now can you?

So I'm the lazy one LOL

  3. Has anyone tried the seemingly simple instructions at http://www.ehow.com/how_6122094_change-pal-dvd-ntsc.html to convert PAL dvds to NTSC dvds using 3 free programs?

If it works then the remaining question is whether the converted video and audio quality is good. Since I only have 6 PAL dvds to convert I don't mind if the conversion takes hours of computer time per dvd.

It's a poor method of PAL to NTSC conversion. The 3:2:3:2:2 pulldown method is far better. And you didn't need to drag up a 9 year old thread to ask.

  5. Thanks!
That seems to confirm that there still is no easy pure-software solution to this after over a decade of folks asking for the same thing.

AvsToDVD does a proper job of it, using 3:2:3:2:2 pulldown after the encoding is finished. You won't get back converted menus, though, but a fairly rudimentary menu, if you like. And it'll still have the PAL speedup, as all DVD conversions done this way will.

These days I'm pretty lazy and I often use AVStoDVD if I need to do a PAL 2 NTSC conversion. Assuming the PAL DVD is progressive and doesn't have any odd interlacing issues then AVStoDVD does a damn fine job.
