    Need a little help.

I live in USA but my family back in Europe.Always when I do video I need to do it in both systems NTSC and PAL.

    1. WinDV -for capture from DV camera
    2. Premiere Pro - editing
    3. DVDLab - making a DVD

Now what would be easiest way to do project both ways.In which step I should convert it to both systems??

Would be better to ripp my finished DVD in NTSC with DVD Decrypter so I would have Region 0??

    Thanks

I own DOZENS of NTSC - Region 1 DVD's here in Germany. There is almost no reason to convert NTSC to PAL nowadays....our players and TV's can view just about anything.

  3. From what I see, if your region is region 2 and the player is region 2 compliant then it should play NTSC since Japan is part of Region 2 BUT it has the TV standard NTSC.
Took me years to find that out!
Most 100HZ TVs handle NTSC DVDs very well.

Any DVD you burn yourself on your computer is region 0 or region free by default.

Converting PAL to NTSC is somewhat easy but converting NTSC video (especially if it is video footage from a video camera) to PAL can be very tricky.

Better to just send PAL and see if that works (chances it will). If not better they buy a DVD player that can do NTSC to PAL conversion so you can just send NTSC and not worry about conversion yourself (the conversion you must do on your computer is a painfull process for the most part so it is best avoided ... let the DVD player do it).

To make a "quicky" conversion load you mpeg into Mainconcept Encoder and select PAL output. It should be playable. Same with NeroVision Express if I'm not mistaken.

A conversion from NTSC to PAL done this way will work but will not look very good in terms of smoothness of image, i.e., frames will either be added and/or dropped etc.

Thanks guys for great inputs.I think I stick with just one format.
I'll just send NTSC format and in worse case my famly can play it on computer, just need to send Killer Region software so they don't have to change DVD settings every time to different system.

    Thanks again

Remember, region coding and NTSC/PAL are two seperate unrelated issues.

Actually, they look and play perfectly with in sync sound. Due to that I was always wondering how viable this conversion method is. Not covered by Mainconcept manual albeit still working really well. Plus awful quick. It is exactly how it's done in Procoder but with MC it's "unofficial". Since I was never too interested in the standard compliance aspect I have never explored this subject. I have made 1 DVD this way for quick viewing and kept it ever since. Works like a charm. What do you think?

    I don't like the results.
It reminds me the convertion some DVD standalones do from NTSC to PAL

I can succeed far better results the classic (and slow) way: Capture, IVTC, seperate audio / video, Boost audio / video to PAL framerate, encode / resize video, multiplexx

On the other hand, most people don't even realise the difference between the fast MC method and the hell as slow "classic" method.
IMO, that method can be used when a fast and dirty method is needed to convert NTSC to PAL. But when you convert stuff like music videos, Porn and action movies, I mean stuff with lots of moving and action on screen, the "jiltering" can make it painfull to watch.
For TV shows, anime and slow action movies it can be ok...

Guys, didn't I just say that it plays like a charm? I wonder how "incompliant" the outcome is, but my DVD player seems to like it a lot (and this is a subborn JVC xvs 60, a bitch when it comes to SVCD compliance). It can't be too bad I guess then...

Btw. JVC reads PAL, no problem, that was just a test.
