Compressing 2 DVDs onto 1 DVD

Hi Folks,

I have a movie that spans 2 DVDs.
I want to be able to compress the 2 DVDs down to 1 DVD.
In order to keep quality up, I'm happy to cut out subtitles and extra features - I just don't want to have to insert a 2nd disc in the middle of the movie. It's bloody annoying!
I realise that this will probably involve some sort of joining of VOB files, but I don't quite know what I need to do or what tools I need to use.

Does anyone have any ideas
