  1. Hello...
    I have an athlon 1800XP 256ram.
I recently got a new DVD recorder (NEC ND3520). Everything works fine except DVD ripping.
To rip a 6-8GB original DVD with DVD decrypter it takes 16-20 minutes, sometimes even more. Is that normal?
A friend of mine says that it should take 5-10 minutes. For already ripped 4.7GB DVD-R/+R's it takes about 5-6minutes.

I have installed the latest modified firmware that enables bitsetting and disables riplock, shouldn't that fix the problem? Is there something i can do or is that how long it's supposed to take?

  2. Most of us find that this drive is really slow even with the riplock removed. What you are experiencing sonds about right depending on the disc. I would recommend either the AOpen 1648 AAP or the Liteon 167T with codeguy's firmware.
Still a few bugs in the system...

yea, i heard that hacked firmware helps u rip faster with that drive, AOpen, yuck, i have heard more negative about that drive then all other drives put toghter

also the 1673 liteone is good

my 1633 CF to 1653 cstj rips pretty fast, but i dont care how long it take lol, i use dvd shrink tho, so i rip and encode to the right size same time, usally takes 9-15 minutes for the whole thing maybe i lucky

That is an interesting comment. I must have read 100 posts about the AOpen 1648AAP and no one has ever been less than overjoyed about the performance. Are you sure you aren't thinking about their burner? This is a ROM drive. Anyway, the Liteon 167T is an alternative that is almost as fast.

  7. While those rip times don't sound too bad in my opinion, have you looked to see if the unit you are ripping from is in PIO or DMA mode?

If possible set to DMA mode and see if that speeds things up any.
