after a recent clean install of windows xp (sp2) i went through and reinstalled all of my software.. which includes my favorite mp3 player, winamp.. i've never liked versions of winamp after 2.x, they seemed far too bloated.. anyhow..

previously winamp had its own independant volume control, meaning it wouldnt mess with the windows volume controls.. i could turn an mp3 all the way down, play a video file in another program and listen to the audio from it.. i cant do that anymore, it controls the "wav volume"..
second, i used to be able to used the nullsoft disk writer to output my mp3's (mp2's, etc) to wav files.. this function is completely gone..

i cant play wav's, or any other various audio files that i used to be able to play.. just mp3's..

i installed winamp 2.95 (winamp295rc_full.exe), i believe i've used this one previously without any problems.. just not with win xp sp2..

    any suggestions?

the only problem i have come across with winamp and xp w/sp2 is the audio is choppy. i can't listen to any mp3 files because the audio is choppy. i didn't have this problem when i had winamp installed on a windows 2000 pc. i did a fresh install of win xp pro w/sp2 because i had compatibility problems with one of my external enclosures and advc-100. everything is ok for now and i haven't had time to try winamp again. i'm so glad i haven't done the xp activiation. i am not impressed with it at all.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I wanted to mention that you consider giving v5 of Winamp a shot. It's basically identical to v2 (which I liked a lot as well)
