  1. I have converted many divX to VCD using tmpgenc with very good results.

    Now I have a divX with AC3-sound, and tmpgenc won't except the divX-file as a sound-source.
(A can play the file in Windows Media Player, with sound)

What's the easiest way to have the conversion done? It's a hole bunch of divX-files that should be converted, so I rather stick to one program, so the process could be automated. Is this possible? If not, what other programs do I need?

  2. extract sound to wave using vdub, then reprocess wave using cooledit or something similar, use reprocessed wave as audio source

  4. Thats great, but how do you get the ac-3 track in the first place. Axod expects a ac-3 to convert to wave. I need to extract the ac-3 track form the divx media first...anyone have any ideas on how to do that?

  5. Open your divX in virtualdub. Make a "save wav" in the filemenu.
The wavfile that is created is in fact a ac3-file, that you can open in Azid and convert to wav.

However, I found another solution, not so much different really, but it's less work for yourself.

Install PowerDVD (it's not free) to get some codecs installed. Extract the ac3-file from the divX (using virtualdub). Use the divX as video-source and the ac3-wav as sound-source in tmpgenc. Encode...

This way, if you have many divX that should be converted, you can first extract a bunch of ac3-files, and then make a batch in tmpgenc and automate the process.

  6. Thanks for the reply..prob is, erery time i try to extract the audio with virtual dub, I get an error stating that no suitable audio decompression could be found(ie. it doesnt know ho to deal with the ac3 stream). I have tried installing powerdvd with no luck as i still get the same prob. Is there any codec paack i should install? What version of virtualdub you use and what version of powerdvd shoudl i install? Are there any difference to the virutaldub settings that should be made as opossed to the settigns you would normally use?
    Thanks

  7. I have made no personal settings in virtualdub. I downloaded virtualdub a few days ago, so I guess a have the latest version. What version of divX-codecs do you have installed? Download v4.11 from http://www.divx.com if you don't have them, and try again.

I should also mention that my solution with tmpgenc to convert the ac3 (using PowerDVD's codecs) makes my sound choppy. Please let me know if it works for anyone else.

  9. sometimes i could only get vdub to work by selecting 'direct stream copy' instead of 'processing', after that, i could process the audio wav file using other tools, but vdub wouldn't touch the 'raw' file until i ran it through something else
