  1. I dont get it.

how come there havent been any questions about this here before. maybe the search isn't working right. The search doesnt return anything.

anyway. I downloaded a movie and when I played it the movie was a text message saying I need Vodei MP to play the movie and that I can get it from from http://www.vodei.com.

If you go check the site there is no info about what the codec is, what it does, how it works, settings etc.

If you want the encoder you need to contact them...

The "codec" can be downloaded from their site. and the movie plays ok after the codec download.

the quality of the movie is pretty good. below is the partial content of an info file that was zipped with the movie:

    Audio Codec......: AC3
    Audio Bitrate....: 448 kbit/s
    Video Codec......: XviD/Vodei
    Video Bitrate....: 1105 kbit/s
    Video Info.......: 23,97 fps 640x272

so overall the movie is encoded xvid but you need vodei to watch it. what load of BS.

I think basically all vodei does is to "envelope" the movie. so you download their little "application/codec" to open the envelope to watch a regular xvid avi .....

my question is does anyone know a way around vodei so I can just get to the "meat" and burn it on a cd to watch on my Divx/xvid dvd player ... my dvd player sure doesnt support lame a** vodei...

    thanks ahead

  2. Well I have just finished surfing the net for a way around this and came up empty

BUT I do have a solution for people with the same problem
    Get the Vodei codec...

Use Dvd Santa and it works to make a dvd

Use GSpot on the downloaded file. Take a screen shot of the info and post the whole thing here - there may be some info that someone can pick up on...
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Unfortunately I changed the 4CC of the vido to xvid and Gpost gives me different info from what it was originally, but I will post it anyway so you can take a look

Hmmm... I can't see anything in there that relates to this "Vodei" site.

Out of interest, which movie did you download? Ocean's 11 or 12 (or something to do with the ocean - ha ha)? I've seen both at the cinema, and think Ocean's 11 is better.

    hamambocegi,
The main thing would be to post your results after trying the suggestions. Constant feedback to us will help us solve your problem

Also, there's never any need to name the file or movie with which you are having problems. It may lead to speculation on it being "warez". When you post a screen grab from Gspot, it's best to blur out the "Path" section. It's always more secure if people on the net don't know your directory structure.

  9. SERIOUSLY....lets get some progress here people, there seems to be little to no information about this pos vodei crap....sure i can play these fine after installing the vodei codec, but thats it...vdub, vdubmod, gspot, basically everything cannot read the movies. Cant demux the audio from the vid.
tmpgenc plus will encode them, but at the moment, you will only get audio if you let tmpgenc convert it...if there's a way to demux the audio from these xvid/vodei files PLEASE LET US ALL KNOW HOW

  10. Pudster420 Same person?

Can you upload a small clip,So I can try some test's on it?

  11. Also been looking at this 'Vodei' codec, whatever it is, and the only succesful way of encoding the files i've found so far, is firstly converting the original vodei file to a DivX/XviD avi using WinAVI Video Converter. This seems to be able to encode them fine, and then the new avi file is read by most my programs. Hopefully this helps a little, but this Vodei is a pain in the ass!!

well I tried changing the fourcc to xvid and play it, in that case (on PC) the movie is just blank with the same length as the mesage (7 secs)

so I didnt want to waste a cd to try in the dvd player ...

I am going to try gaz1185's advice. if that works I'll let you know..

    thanks ..

In fact, it's neither 11 nor 12. It's a rare PD movie called "Oceans surfs silently roar around my Transylvanian ancles" featuring the 11 year old Bela Lugosi in his first movie.

Ha ha ha Ah yes, of course. And there's me thinking that it's suspiciously close to warez...

  16. apparently it would be a bad idea to post a clip of the movie im having trouble with. Tmpgenc plus encodes the video fine, but with no audio. It makes the audio (mp2) file, but there's absolutely no sound in the file, even though its the right size and everything...just a blank file thats 200mb.

Here's the solution to converting these movies.
First you have to install their vodei player. Get it from www.vodei.com.
(there's no way around that if you want to keep the movie. You can uninstall it later.)
Now install the newest version of AVISynth.
Create a simple text file with the extension .avs
open the .avs file with notepad and type:
    DirectShowSource("C:\Pathname\moviename.avi", framerate)
substitute pathname, filename and framerate with your movie's actual settings, then save.
Now open the .avs file with virtualdub, virtualdubmod, nandub, wmnicenc,
quenc or tmpgenc with the avs/vdr plugin. from here you can re-encode the movie to the format you want. The video works and the audio works I've tried it.

  18. well, the avisynth solution did not work for me, but another one did: open tmpgenc 2.51...something --> environmental setting --> vfapi plugin and give direct show priority one. Now you should be able to encode the video file to mpg or avi, including audio. At least this worked on my system.

  19. So I did some hunting and I found a conversion guide for Vodei movies here:

    http://www.vladd44.com/video/vodei.php

This includes a method of modifying the original vodei program.

I wouldn't say I am a still noob at all the video editing shtuff but I am no pro either. I still found this conversion guide to be very easy to follow. It also introducted me to the program GraphEdit which I think has an excellent interface and seems very powerful.

I also found a very interesting discussion of what the whole deal with Vodei is here:http://forum.inmatrix.com/index.php?showtopic=2256&st=40.
Apparently Vodei does attempt to connect to the Internet everytime it runs. Even if you install the modified version from the above guide I would definitely either be running a conservative firewall or simply save the guide and work offline. Altogether a very suspicious program. Please note I am not advocating warez so far as I know. The vodei people are the ones attempting to make money on content they did not produce as they are "wrapping" their "codec" around video that is legitimately shared (TV shows,etc.).

    Yeah my first post 8)

  20. Ello guys

Ok, I downloaded that vodei "player" & uninstalled it (apparently it's a bit dodgy) ... now I can't play any avi's through Windows Media Player ... they play fine through DivX player, just not WMP - any ideas?

    Thanks

Could you give me an example please of how to write the DirectShowSource?

Because I’m getting this message when I open the .avs file whit TMPGEnc

Name:	Untitled.jpg
Views:	407
Size:	65.2 KB
ID:	2696

and this is what i put in the .avs file
    ("F:\Ocean's Eleven.avi",29.970)

  22. Well, now you've done it.
