  1. I'm trying to rip a DVD that is badly strached so I can back it up to be able to watch it in my player again. I'm using DVD Decrypter to rip the movie, but it gets to about 60% , slows down, and then I get an error message. It keeps trying to rip the moive, at less then 1x, giving me lots of write retries. Is there anything I can do to help me rip this movie?

some have used white toothpaste on scratched discs. i haven't tried it myself but it is successful. if you have a friend who has another brand of dvdrom or dvdrw try ripping it in there pc. i had the same problem a few months ago but luckily i have 5 dvdrws and 3 dvdroms, my plextor 708a drive was able to read the scratch disc without any errors.

There are a lot of things that can be done, particularly since you have nothing to lose.
The easiest thing to do is to ask a rental place what they charge to run it through their scratch remover. The place down the street from me has this huge thing that they use that seems to do a fantastic job. I have used dried up car wax. I also have this funky pencil that looks black, but makes scratches almost disappear.
    Good luck!
