Well, I just tried that capture both with and without The Clarifier, and there was no lines on either one. Although the lines were there in the preview window, but when I opened it in ReDo, they weren't there. I don't understand because I remember that the first time I tried this before I made my very first post about this problem I tried this same thing and the lines were in the Redo, so maybe it was the Dazzle?
I'm going to go head and try to capture the whole video and see if the lines are there at the end, it takes about 3 hrs to capture this video, so I'll come back and let you know the results.
I really hope this works this time *sigh*
I still don't understand what it seems to be working now lol

Don't hook up the clarifier or anything else until you can capture without lines. Find a tape that you know does not have macrovision protection on it.
(Oh, I just read your above post so go ahead and do what you are doing as long as you are not getting the lines in the end)
Also, you don't have to capture three hours to do this test. Just capture one minute! -
Well, I just captured the first 5 min. of the video that always has the lines thru it in the preview screen in Studio and it did this time as well when I was capturing it, but I opened it in ReDo and there was no lines in it at all, so I guess the problem is fixed. I don't know how but I guess it is. I'll try to capture the whole video now to see if it's still ok, but I guess so far it is...

I have it hooked up to the Clarifier also, every video I've ever captured even when there was no lines in the preview window before I've always had it hooked to the Clarifier...

Superstar24,
I bet you the videos that were captured with the lines in the preview window don't have any lines recorded on the captured video. In fact I believe if you were to record one of these captured videos to a DVD and played this DVD on your Stand Alone DVD player the lines wouldn't appear on your television. I believe this problem is only occuring on some of the video playback/preview interfaces on your computer. My best guess as to what may be causing this goes back to an earlier post by your saying that you don't have SP2 or DirectX installed (or at least the most current version of DirectX). Since SP2 is so big and would take a long time to download especially on a dial up connection I would recommend you try downloading DirectX first. I've listed the link below. This will also allow you to load Power DVD as well. I have a feeling your problem has more to do with DirectX 9 not being installed than SP2, but we won't know until you give it a try. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi KTH,
Thanks alot for your reply and suggestion. I'll go and download the DirectX 9. You're right about the SP2, it's weird because my desktop is set for automatic download of updates when I get online with it and I'm guessing it's been downloading the SP2 for awhile now because it's been stuck on 39% forever it seems, on my laptop I have the same kinda setting to where it automatically downloads it and it seemed to download it just fine, I don't know if the desktop is froze or what because before I did the system recovery I had SP2 and it downloaded fine but I can't seem to get it to download this time for some reason
But thanks alot for the link and advice,I'll try that and let ya know how it worked. -
Well, I just captured my 2nd video since last night and it seems for the most part that the problem has mostly gone away, it's certainly not as bad as it was, but I do still see occasional quick flashes of the lines in the video at different points which I do want to get rid of. I don't know what else could be done though?
-
Your the only one who can solve this. Are you seeing the lines or not? Are you seeing it on all tapes or some or just one? Do the lines occur all throught the tape or do they come and go. If they come and go do the always appear at the spot on the tape?
If I had one more suggestion it would be this:
If the lines are sometimes there and sometimes not then look around again for something that is causeing interference. Maybe your neighbor got a ham radio outfit or something (I don't know if that could do this). Try looking at the same source at several times of day and see if it is sometimes there and sometimes not.
Try to be a detective and figure this out. By now you should eliminated some possibilites and be getting closer to an answer. -
I'm still seeing them in certain spots...they come and go..they've been on all 3 videos that I've captured since last night....they seem to be there more in the preview window in Studio, then in ReDo actually..
I thought it might be how I had the setup, but I've had the setup the same way as I always have, so I don't think it'd be that
Ive eliminated the VCRs, the cords, the clarifier, the Dazzle..I thought briefly today it could be the monitor maybe because theres something wrong with mine when its on for awhile it makes this horrible humming noise that will only go away once I turn it off, but I don't think it's that since there is no problem with anything else on the monitor..
I installed the DirectX 9 that I was told to..so I'm not sure what's left..
At least the lines arent steady throughout the whole thing so maybe that means I'm getting closer, I hope anyway .... -

Superstar, I hope you get this solved. I really do.
But I give up.
Without a systematic approach to eliminating variables, a willingness to take some simple, detailed steps, and accurate, correct, consistent answers to specific questions you are simply poking in the dark. You may eventually find the answer that way.
Good Luck -
Superstar24, try posting an image of your "lines" for others here to take a look at.

Use the Grab Frame tool in Studio to grab a frame. Save it as a file -- BMP or JPG. Post it here with the "Img" option.

I've made a good bit of DVD's since I got the new Dazzle box, and the lines don't seem to be there on the created DVD from what I've seen..so I guess that prob. is basically solved, however I'm having a new one...
Lately, when I try to capture a video from my VCR to my computer, the video completly freezes...this has happened 4 times now...I just did a destrcutive recovery again...and tried a new capture just now...and the computer completely froze...it was around the 2 and a half hour mark..the computer just completely freezes...as I said this is the 4th time or so since it happened..and i just did a whole new system recovery and it still froze..does anyone have any idea why it's doing this? -
I just did a destrcutive recovery again
If it always happens after several hours of capture maybe your computer is overheating. Just capture for two hours at a time. If you absolutely must capture for longer periods of time you could add a fan or take the side off your computer (might work but not a good idea long term) or buy a new computer.
