Hi all,,,I am new to this forum, so please forgive my ignorance~
I have just started burning movie files onto dvd-r's & Im not sure what recording speed I should be using?![]()
So far its been 8X...im curious what is the diff. & does it affect the qaulity of the finished product?
I have Nero6, & the qaulity has been poor to average.
I havent even started to learn how to use dvd Shrink or Decrypter~![]()
Thanks for any advice~

Burning speed does not affect video quality. Just how fast the DVD is made. Use the higest setting available which will either be your Drive's speed, or the media speed, whichever is less.
As for the poor quality, my guess is you have a poor source (guessing you have avi's by how you said "movie files"). you will never have a better looking video than you start with."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Generally speaking you should burn at the speed the disc recommends. So a DVD-R or DVD+R that is rated at 8x should be burned at 8x assuming your burner is capable of that speed (which I guess it is).
NERO can cause burning problems for some (actually many) people though so I would suggest using DVD Decrypter which can RIP and BURN but DVD Decrypter can only burn from an ISO IMAGE file so to create an ISO IMAGE file from a VIDO_TS folder of DVD files (IFO, BUP, VOB, etc.) use the "classic version" of ImgTools.
This will give you quality burns assuming you are using quality media and have a quality DVD burner.
A quality burn will not increase visual/sound quality but will be more compatable on various DVD players and should not have problems like freezing or skipping playback etc.
