  1. I know these questions will sound dumb to those much more veresed in these subjects, so I apologize in advance. Are all avi files the same? If they are not the same can they be mixed on the same dvd if your stand alone dvd player supports playing Divx and Xvid? Can you just burn them directly to dvd? What about mpeg1 files; can they be burned directly to vcd? Thanks in advance for your help. I am also looking at purchasing a Phillps 642 stand alone dvd player. What do you some of you think about it?

    Theres a good place to start.

    AVI is a container and can be any codec.

    I've read some divx players don't like xvid unless you add a header to the xvid though no personal experience with that.
