I use TMPGEnc encoder and TMPGEnc DVD Author. They are easy to use and inexpensive with good quality. Trial versions are available. There are others that work as well.

Making a quality DVD is mostly finding out the settings that work best for you. You might want to take a look at the DVD 'What is' to the left <<<. The most compatible audio is AC3, but MPEG-1 Layer2 is mostly compatible and makes it a little easier.

Spend a little time with the guides to the left <<<. Just about everything you need to know is there.

  4. Yep, TMPGEnc is great though a little slower than other programs.

I use TMPGEnc, DVDlab, and Nero

I suggest using Cinema Craft Encoder aka CCE BASIC but to get the most out of it you will also need to learn AviSynth.

However that is one great combo that works very well and very fast (much faster than TMPGEnc Plus).

As for the final stage (the authoring stage) I suggest TMPGEnc DVD Author with the AC-3 plug-in. Fairly inexpensive and works extremely well. Just so as not to confuse you TMPGEnc is the MPEG encoder and is also called TMGPEnc Plus ... there is also a newer version called TMPGEnc Xpress. So to be clear I am saying use TMPGEnc DVD Author for the final stages but use CCE BASIC with AviSynth for the actual MPEG encoding.

TMPGEnc Xpress with AC-3 is not bad, especially for a simple, wizard-driven solution. Like the zombie said, CCE BASIC with AviSynth will give you great results, but you will have more to learn (which will make you a better video creator in the process).
