    @FulciLives:

    Mainconcept 1.4.2 has 2 settings:
The input capture setting and the output encoded setting.

In a way, the capture plug in frameserve to the encoder when you use that fuction. During the frameserving, the encoder can also resize.

When you do realtime mpeg 2 capture, set the input module to 768 x 576/480.
    Then, encode to 720 x 576.
When you encode at a lower framesize, let say 704 x 576 or 352 x 576, then something wierd happens: A sort of "statering" at the bottom of the screen. This is a bug of the encoder, and I don't see anyone interest to fix it (it doesn't exist on mainconceptPVR a bad buggy program overall).

I never manage to eliminate totally that statering when MC output at 352 x 576. There is a kind of distortion always (mostly noticable on scrolling text).
But, when you grabb 768 x 576 and output at 720 x 576 with 2000min / 3800 average / 6000 max the picture look excellent. IMO looks exactly like what PVR 350 can produce at the same framesize and the same bitrate!
Of course this is my opinion. Others may have other kind of results to state.

I would never use mpeg 2 solutions for the convertions I'm interest to put on DVD. I use mpeg 2 solutions only for the things I want to do a quick and dirty convertion or the source is a satellite channel with bad compression (like the ones from UK's Sky Digital)

    OK now I understand.

I didn't realize it worked that way!

  4. I'm still trying to get Mainconcept mpeg encoder to capture with my PVR-250.
I open the program, select Tools, Capture, and then select the device (Hauppauge...) and it craps out with an error in captureengine.dll
    Am I totally missing something?

On another note, the latest drivers from Hauppauge wouldn't allow GB-PVR to work, however, the latest from shpsvr, once installed using their convoluted method, DO work with GB-PVR.
MCE has never worked, except with my old cap card.
    Any ideas? A reinstall maybe?

The Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 is a HARDWARE MPEG encoding capture card. It does the MPEG encoding inside the card.

There is no reason to use Mainconcept MPEG encoder to capture. The only reason to use it to capture is when you have a capture card that does NOT do HARDWARE MPEG encoding on capture. An example would be the capture card you had but got rid of for the Hauppauge

I never said that you can use PVR 250 with mainconcept for capturing.
