  1. Ever since i got my NEC drive a few months ago i havent had anything but trouble. Every single DVD-R disc i write (mostly movies) i can read in my Sony stationary DVD drive but when i try to make a copy of the "copy" my NEC drive ALWAYS comes with a CRC error at the end of the disc.
I tried using alot of different DVD-r discs and installed alot of different firmwares but nothing works. I also tried different burning software such as cloneDVD, Nero and DVD decrypter.
Is it my NEC drive or the firmware??

The wierd part is the CRC read problem at the end of every disc.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

ps. if the discs gets the tinyest scratch my stationary sony also has trouble reading.

  2. Have you figured out the problem yet? I'm curious cause i've got the same drive but haven't copyed a copy with it. I'll have to try to see what happens.
I've only used Fuji 8x DVD -R discs. These discs haven't given me any coasters except thru my own stupidity.
Let me try a rip and copy from an -R disc tonight an see what happens. I'll let you know asap.

  3. I've got the same burner and I've never had any issues backing up discs burned by it. Errors at the edge of discs is usually caused by using poor media. Do you have another DVD-ROM drive to see if they can be read with that drive? Are you trying to copy on the fly? If so, try ripping to the HD first with DVD Decrypter, then burn the resulting ISO image with Decryter.

  4. Managed to copy a copy with out any problems using my NEC 2500a.
I first ripped the dvd with Decryptor then burned with Intervideo dvd creator. Disc was near capacity @ ~4.45 gigs.
Check Steves reply and have a good look at the edge of your discs. The Fuji's I currently have, have a very consistant appearence all the way to the edge but one never knows. Hopefully my next batch is just as consistant.

    simple fix....

DONT USE THE NEC BURNER TO.... rip; read; copy; ANYTHING.

i learned this a long time ago when i got my NEC 2500a. it was constantly giving me various read errors or wouldnt copy correctly. By simply using a cheap dvd rom drive to rip everything i've had about a 97% rip error. Even when my dvd rom errored, i triped ripping with my NEC and soemtimes it ripped sometimes it woudlnt. When neither work it is usually the disc.

hope this helps u guys 8)
