I have a few video clips that are coded with DivX 5. Video is black, but audio is OK.

Are there any utils to fix this issue? Gspot tells me that I have 3 compatible video and audio codecs; and the render test works as well.

    What am I missing?

Try running it through VirtualDub Mod and see if it will display. If so, you may be able to do a direct stream copy and use that file. Or re-encode it to DIVX there.
