I recently replaced my aging TV Wonder PCI with a Sapphire Theatrix. An odd problem I am having is with the audio on certain channels. On channel 3 and sometimes 4, the audio is plagued by static. Sometimes it is so bad that I can barely understand what people are saying on TV. The problem is not software related as it happens regardless of what program I am using.
To make a long story short, it seems to be coming in on the cable. Here's the deal: the cable comes out of the wall and goes into a 2-way splitter. From there one cable goes to the computer and the other goes to the VCR/TV. After some messing around with the cables, I found that I can stop the static if I unplug the cable going to the VCR. The static does not return if I plug the cable back in. However, if I unplug the cable, plug it back in, then switch to another channel on the computer and come back to channel 3, the static is back.
Could the problem be a weak signal and I lose too much going to both devices? Is there some feedback of some sort from the VCR? Would a better splitter (mine is very cheap and crappy) solve the problem, or do I need some sort of a filter to block feedback? Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help.
