my friend has a LAN consisting of 10 XP computers sharing a 512kbps internet connection and it is so slow in downloading. we can only download files from the internet around 10kbps or slower. how can we make the internet connection faster? any utilities on the net like accelerator or something?

upgraded to 1Mbs has improved speeds.
512Kps on 10 computers is nearly enough identical to dial up connection.
Also, remember downloads speeds are usually stated in Kilobybes KB and not Kilobits Kb as ISPs use (a clever marketing ploy)

I got no problem having 4 computers on a dialup Internet connection and the way to do this is one at a time for a user such as me.

cut down
sigh...
is there not any program like maybe a connection accelerator that can somewhat augment the speed connection...i've seen some program that do this but never tried it yet though...hacking the Net using typewriter :D -
There's no real way to speed up a connection. The only other thing you could do is limit the bandwidth to each computer to keep all of them from slowing down when one tries to use all the bandwidth.

connection accelerators are like herbal male enhancement. Don't trust them!

Best thing you can do without increasing your bandwidth is;
Make sure people aren't using real audio or similar for net music
No P2P software
No webshots or gator crap
Tell the people not to surf the net all the time -
Actually, there is a net accelerator available...upgrading your broadband to 1Mb/s or even 2Mb/s.
