  1. I have just bought a Play-Yan (Nintendo GBA-SP Movie Player) and the Japanese software that comes with it converts from most formats to ASF

What I want to know is what in your opinion is the best format & software to convert my Original DVDs to in one step (IE I don't want to be messing around with multiple software ) as there is no DVD to ASF software?

I want a fast (not bothered about output size) but clean looking format then I can user "Panasonic MediaStage 4.2 for Nintendo" to convert to the tiny 260x176 30FPS and play them at work

    Cheers.

Here is the Play-Yan Official Video Format Spec.

    Video Specifications

    Frame Rate: 6fps to 30fps

If you know what formats the software accepts as input, then you can click on "DVD Backup" in the how to section and choose whichever method appears easiest for you. There is plenty there to choose from.

  3. I know it will convert from DiVX/Xvid/MPG etc but just wondered if there was a reason to pick a particular file format as the intermediary format before final convertion to ASF?

  4. Well you might pick MPEG, since the DVD content is already in that format. Just extract it without reencoding.

    I'd do it thusly:

    mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile mydvd.mpg dvd://1

    assuming it was title 1.
