You could try using a video card with VIVO (Video In/Video Out), just connect an S-Video to the DVD Player S-Video out and the other end to the S-Video In of the Video card. The only problem is that many video cards chips come with macrovision protection and won't let you watch the content if the movie is protected with this system.

Another option is to get from Radio Shack an RF Modulator device and connnect the S-Video or Composite out of the DVD Player to the S-Video In or Composite of the RF modulator, then, using a coaxial cable from the RF Modulator you could connect it to a PC TV Tuner, the broadcast should appear in channel 3 or 4 of the TV Tuner card.

There are many cheap TV Tuner cards based on the BT878 chip and a bunch of free applications compatible with it.

  3. Why not simply use the PC's DVD ROM drive and some player software?

  4. Unfortunately there probably is no common interface between your DVD player and your monitor. Your DVD player has Component/Scart/Composite and your monitor probably only has RGB.

There are Component to RGB converters, For example:

But they run US$150 to $200.

You're best bet is what Bugster suggested, just get some DVD player software for your PC.

IMHO, These units do not handle interlace very well. I have a friend that uses one with a dvd player, and a 17 inch flat panel monitor.

Might as well watch on a TV rather than use one of those.
