there is no difference as far as hardware. the only difference is the OEM usually comes with the BULK firmware which is the "G" series firmware and to enable 4x DUAL LAYER DVD+R burning you need to upgrade to the G7P9 or later firmware. PRO usually comes with the "B" firmware that is already 4x DL DVD+R capable. Check out the BENQ FORUM at cdfreaks.com for more info.

you can always cross flash the "G" firmware to the "B" firmware by downloading the WinDXFlash.exe file and the B7P9 cvt file from this site:

lastly retail usually comes with bundled software and OEM doesn't.

The OEM BenQ comes with the BenQ software, bit that's it I think. I can't remember if mine came with any actual burning software.

HDDVD: please search the forums first. This issue, OEM vs. Retail/PRO, had been discussed to death.

I just bought the OEM one from newegg last week. Came with Nero Express. Firmware was G7Z9, flashed it in safe mode to G7P9 and burned both DL and dvd+r media (Yuden002 & MMC 004) perfectly. Personally I didn't install the Nero because I use copytodvd to burn or dvddecrypter
