  1. I heard of on board sound taking abunch of the CPU usage I want to see how much my sound is using because I might want to buy a real sound card so I can have that CPU usage back,

    Never heard or experienced a problem like that before, maybe the application running and using the sound card was the one to blame.

    I have used on board sound for several years with no issues, I do a lot of video and audio recording.

    If there is a difference you'll probably never see it. I've only had onboard audio on the new workstation and haven't seen the audio processes kick up much usage at all. Pull up the Task Manager and identify which process(es) make up your audio. See if the CPU utilization number next to it moves when playing back Dolby, DTS, or any other audio you want to test.

    Technically onboard audio still has a hardware controller so there is hardware decoding going on, it shouldn't take much from your CPU. On mine either playback of MP3s in Winamp (even VBR ones) takes up less that 1% utilization or my onboard audio chip has MP3 decoding. If so that's kinda neat.
