  1. i need some tips on how to get the best possible picture quality for
a 2 hour and 25 minute capture with minimal macro blocks if possible.

i tried captureing in 352x240 but the movie itself hurt my eyes bad it was captured interlaced like the rest of my movies but this was by far the worst one i have ever seen.

so if you know some tips as how to do a 145 minute capture at 720x480 it would be greatly appreciated.

Do the capture at what is called Half D1 resolution which is 352x480 for NTSC or 352x576 for PAL.

Here is a bitrate calculator: CLICK HERE

If the capture is 145 minutes and you use 224kbps audio then the video bitrate will be about 3900kbps which is very good for that level of resolution, i.e., the Half D1 resolution.

As for 145 minutes at Full D1 (720x480) you can forget it. That ain't gonna look very pretty unless you can capture AVI and then do a multi-pass VBR but even then there will be macroblocks at times.
