Howdy,
I was wondering if flash memory would be good for editing video. ?
no moving parts so was wondering if using it for the video programs or the rendering part would have any positive effects on amount of time to do them.
THanks
Mark

Mark,
I doubt it. As far as I know, flash media does not have the huge transfer rates and fast seek times offered by modern hard drives. Flash memory is a lot slower than RAM - I assume you are thinking they are similar and so have similar performance characteristics.
As well as that, can you imagine how much money you'd have to spend on flash media to support a video project?
Hope this addresses your question!

Yes, flash is a fair bit slower. I do considerable file transfers to and from flash memory and it's noticeably slower.
Another interesting thing I've noticed, and it's quite obvious - firewire blows the doors off of USB2 for large file transfers. It's remarkable how much faster it is, all other things being equal -
