Enough fumbling about is enough.....
Why don't any encoders have tabs for NTSC, NTSC film and PAL?
In TMPG when I want to convert a NTSC film .avi to DVD I have only the NTSC tab available to me so, as suggested I use the inverse 3:2 pulldown setting in 'other settings/video/encode mode'....but this still gives me a slightly jerky end product......why?

Get Mainconcept mpeg encoder. It has a "tab" for NTSC DVD.
Why are you using pulldown if your source is not 23.976fps?
What other settings are you changing (or not, that maybe you should)?
What you specify in tmpgenc is almost completely dependant on what the source is.Cheers, Jim

Hi reboot, My files are mainly 23.97 and I want to encode to a DVD compliant file.
The encoder I use (TMPG) only has an NTSC tab option available which is 29.97......this will, and does, produce a jerky playback. I want to know how to produce a smooth playback, DVD compliant file from a 23.97 FPS source.
Thx for your response -
Set up tmpgenc like this, and see if it works for you.
Beware that it's going to take a LONG time to encode.
Cheers, Jim
