  1. I wanted to encode 2 tv-eps (1h25min total) to mpeg dvd.
I used the bitrate calculator and I got a bitrate of 6946kbit/sec with an audio bitrate of 224. I used tmpgenc to encode with a 2pass mode with max 8000, min 2000 and average 6900.
I thougt my filesize would be something like 4362/2 = 2181 MB (= fullDVD - overhaed - other iso). But my resulting filesize was 1846 MB (1935978500 Bytes).
Is this difference normal? I don't think the difference is because i used 6900 in stead of 6945. Of is there something wrong with my thinking?

Nothing wrong with your thinking. But I guess TMPGEnc isn't that good at hitting the set average bitrate, or you're not as good at carrying your thinking out, as at thinking
If it looks good (which it ought to do, with a decent source), I wouldn't worry too much tho - That's what matters, right? Not to fill your media to the brim.

the resulting filesize looks like it used something like SVCD bitrates (~2700kbps on the video). Did you accidentally load the SVCD template after making your adjustments?

I take it the 1846 MB was for one episode (~45 minutes)?

ahhhh, one episode makes more sense (I read it wrong and thought it was the total for both). My bad...

  6. In my experience TMPG hit the average realy good. I have used it mainly with lower bitrates though. The file show me something like 37 min if the average is correct. Try to look how long (time!) is the encoded file for example in VirtualDubMod.
Ah, BTW, while it is loaded in VDubMod look at file->file information for the average bitrate!
