I get this every time I reboot my 2nd computer. I started to happen when I removed the VIA motherboard with Intel Celeron, and replaced it with newer VIA with AMD+ CPU.

    Same situation as this guy:
    http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread20016-1.html

System works fine. No issues at all.

    50-50 variation in startup screens:

    1) Halts on blue intro screen ... I have to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL .. the NT logon keys ... to start it. No error message. Boots into Windows XP Pro as soon as I hit the keys

    2) The "page file" warning. I click ok, it boots fine.

Not a huge aggravation ... just a stupid error.

    Ideas?

I don't have tons of stuff installed on my system, but I don't generally recommend a transplant like that without a reinstall. I'd suggest removing the paging file altogether and creating a new one if you haven't already.

    Yep,

You just need to expand the limits of the virtual mamory.

What worked for me for that specific problem: FDISK /mbr

/mbr is an "undocumented" switch. It won't mess with the contents of your hard drive. Obviously, back up any critical data, but I've never suffered any data loss by running that command.

You'll have to run it from a DOS floppy or bootable CD.

  9. All that does is rewrite the master boot record (MBR). I doubt it will fix a virtual mem error.
I usually change the settings to manual, set a swap of about 768 max and min, on a different drive.
Restart as prompted, then if necessary, change it back to Windows managed, or whatever.

I understand the doubt that the FDISK /mbr command will fix the problem. I swear it worked when I ran into that issue. If you run out of ideas, try it.

  11. It would be interesting if that worked. It makes no logical sense, but this IS a computer with Windows that we're talking about

Just remember that computers are psychotic, and you will be okay. I agree that rewriting the master boot record doesn't make sense, but stranger things have happened.

    There's always the backup/format/reinstall option.

You MAY be able to use the AutoAdminLogin registry hack (check M$ support site) to avoid having to do the CTRL ALT DEL thing. My suggestion of reinstalling isn't just to avoid the annoyance, it sounds like a signal that something is wrong, maybe something small, but you won't know for sure until the OS goes belly up. :S
