I'm new to this world and must say this site is quite amazing. I've spent the 2 day required waiting period absorbing mucho articles and reviews.
I have my heart set on the Canopus ADVC-100 or 110 but need to know absolutely if they will:
1) Work with Win98se/Linux Knoppix
2) What's the difference between the 2 models?
3) Does the 110 disable the macrovision copy protection like the 100?
4) Cheapest place to reliably purchase?
I know the 110 is brand new...and not much info may be available yet. I read the reviews (2) here already.
Thanks so much.

it will work with windows 98se but as i found out when i used windows 98se you will not be able to capture more than 4gbs. upgrade to windows 2000 pro or xp with the ntfs file system then you won't have that 4gb limitation.

Ahh...I was afraid of something like this since win98se doesn't support NTFS. I guess I'll have to buy XP. Thanks for the heads up.
Anyone know if the 110 gets by the macrovision copy protection like the 100?

One solutioin would be to use a Full Frame TBC but then you are looking at $250 USD to $300 USD which is a bit high priced but then again a Full Frame TBC can be very handy not just for eliminating copy protection but for stabilizing the incomming video ... very important with VHS sources for instance.
The other option would be to go with the Canopus ADVC-100 instead or perhaps better yet the DataVideo DAC-100 which is pretty much a clone of the Canopus ADVC-100 but defeats copy protection like MACROVISION all the time ... no "trick" is needed.
As for the "trick" when using the Canopus ADVC-100 ... I was under the impression that it doesn't work all the time?

Feeding the signal through my DV camera (D8-TVR120pal) as passthrough does also work perfectly. Don't know how it works with other brands/models , but you can always try if you have the possibility.
