I know this type of question is usually beat to death, but I haven't found any useful info in the media list. I'm interested in hearing from others using the LG GSA 4120B burner and what DVD-R media you've had successfully burn @ 8X. I've gone through a bunch of different Ritek G05 discs - none will burn at 8x. Here's what I've used that I can remember:
Prodisc 8X - [Mitsubishi Chemical Corp] ID :MCC 02RG20. I burned a couple successfully @ 8X and over a dozen coasters @ 4 or 8X
Ritek G04 4X - silver shiny surface. No problems
Ritek G05 8X - white inkjet hub printable: Nothing but coasters. Will not successfully burn at 4x or 8x.
Ritek G05 8X - RiData branded on disc (retail cakebox). Will only burn at 4x, but no problems
I've heard that the G05 isn't a "true" 8x disc, but don't know the details. I'm also kind of stumped as to why the white inkjet printable Riteks wouldn't burn, but the same silver-faced G05's would. If anyone has any recommendations on a solid 8x disc (preferably white inkjet printable), I'd appreciate it.

You might want to consider upgrading your firmware. There's also the possibility you simply got bad media or there's something wrong with your burner.

Unless I'm mistaken, A104 is the latest firmware from LG Electronics. I'm not too interested in 3rd party firmware versions.

Best way!
Updata your firmware, now is A115, not A104.
After that it will compatible with ridata 8x dvd-r @8x -
I was wrong..I thought the newer firmware updates were written by 3rd parties. Took a while to find, but I flashed my drive to A115 from the update on LG's site. Just popped a blank 8X disc in the drive and Nero sees it as 8X writeable. I'll have to burn something and test it out.
Thanks guys!

edit - Just in case anyone else runs into this. I tried firmware version A115 & A111 and both dropped my rip/read speed down to 1.1X ....back to the drawing board.
