  1. I want an external video display to help in video editing (using Premiere) and would like to use a handy computer with firewire input. No problem connecting the Premiere computer to the second one, but the s/w I've tried to display the video - another copy of Premiere, and Windows Movie maker - don't seem to allow for a full screen display. Suggestions?

You can try the AMCAP tool, I often use that next to my scenalyzer software.
Also handy to navigate through your DV-tapes.

Nero Showtime will go full screen for DV, so will the Honestech DVR free demo. Also ULead Video Studio 8 and others.

But why not use a quality TV or video monitor connected through a camcorder or transcoder ? Levels and colors differ in interlaced TV space and that is what you want to monitor for quality.

I use a 27" HDTV monitor connected S-Video through the camcorder or Canopus ADVC for monitoring. Calibration from the Editor color bar is a must.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I in fact have a 14" Panasonic monitor on the output, but haven't been at all satisfied with the results using it as a visual guide. The material I'm cutting is fairly challenging - a stage play with lots of dramatic lighting, mostly red, and anything but flat. Two PD150's to balance. At least no clipping or noise issues. The monitor has the disadvantage that it has adjustments, and the only two things I have to guide me in setting them are color bars and the material itself, neither of which has gotten me there.

A more elegant monitor might help, but for the moment I was going to take a look at whether I could move ahead using something else I already had, i.e. a computer monitor.
