My mobo has dts/ DD 5.1 built into it. It comes with some software called soundmax that will let you control and pick different settings in conjunction with the volume control settings from Windows XP. my mobo has digital coax out and optical out. I don't have a digital coax or optical cable the length I need so I'm using two 9 ft pieces of high quality rca stereo cables with gold ends. I have these joined with a female to female rca adapter to give me a total of 18 ft. I first tried hooking this cable from my dvd player to my reciever and playing a movie with dd 5.1/dts and the reciever showed it as playing ok and the sound was fine, so I know this cable will work for digital coax and 5.1/dts audio. My problem is when using mytheatre to watch satellite some channels have 5.1 ac3 but I can't get the 5.1 to come in on the reciever. I know the cable works so I has to be my settings somewhere. In mytheatre I have directshow mode set to directsound ( i also see i could change that to soundcard#1) then under that I have intervideo audio output set to 6.1 speakers. In soundmax where it asks what kinda speakers you have I have it set to 6.1 also. When I'm on a satellite channel with 5.1 it doesn't come thru, it's 2 channel that becomes emulated into 5.1 when it should really be 5.1 . Any ideas on what settings to change to get this to work ? thanks

I just tried a dvd in my dvd burner using power dvd and Use SPDIF in the audio configuration , it plays in 5.1 surround sound and DTS, so how come the satellite channels with 5.1 surround DD AC3 won't play thru my reciever as 5.1 surround sound?

I've determined it to be the program mytheatre or I don't have a proper graph. I know when I pick the use spdif option in powerdvd I get 5.1, but why? Isn't sdpif fiber optic connection and I'm using digital coax. I noticed in mytheatre if i go to settings>directshow filters> cyberlink audio then I can see a setting saying speakers then I Want to pick use sdpif but it doesn't let me. Maybe in mytheatre it knows that spidf is for optical and I don't have optical plugged into the mobo yet, but if that's the case how come when using "use SPDIF" in powerdvd I get the 5.1 thru the digital coax out ? Maybe a different graph has to be constructed or something to allow mytheatre to output in 5.1 on certain channels. Right now I've tried all the different graphs but the graph I'm using now is new cyberlink dvd video/ and audio graph. Any ideas? I also noticed that when i record a sample from the channel with 5.1 and play the same recording in powerdvd it outputs 5.1 SO something is goofed in mytheatre. Thanks
