Quite new to backing up my movies and ripping. I have Nero recode, and have been happily using DVD Decryptor for the past couple of weeks. However, a couple of titles i own struggle at around 40%, and then i get "cyclic redundancy check" and lots of "no seek complete".
Anyway, saw lots of people saying SmartRipper is reliable so i now have that and well, I think I'm missing the point. The only way I can sucessfully make a back-up is by turning it to ASPI available. But that seems to mean i can't make a back-up disk.
on the ripping control panel i can get ASPI highlighted but not VobDec or DeCSS plus-if i can would it help? how would i do it.
Option 2 is using AnyDVD...but figuring this one out is a bit hardcore for a novice.
P.S. The DVD's that are being a pain to do are ALL produced by Channel 4 and the BBC and are region 2. Is there something special about these I should know.
HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

If you are backing up a DVD you own then get DVD Shrink to the left ubder tools and also get one of the many outstanding guides. Th process is quite simple. Well Manchester United, you are a fan ah?

cyclic redundancy check
is usually unreadible discs, maybe scratches or dirty
maybe give the discs a wipe
i would try ripping with your burner, it reads the disc better
like jdizzy said, find a guide that uses dvdshrink on the left , or i like the guides here www.dvdshrink.info -
will give DVD Shrink another shot but i've yet to be sucessful with that and anything i possess....so possibly i should check the user guide. Is backing up the same as burning your own copy?
Burned a few from back-ups i made, some don't take well, which i presume is copy protection and deeply horrid if like I, u have a shocking track record for using your original DVD's as coasters
Man U fan by necessity. There's a death penalty for not supporting don't you know...
Thanks for help so far....will come back when i hit my next brick wallwhy WHY!!!! -
Here is another possible problem to the "cyclic redundancy check" problem.
Check your your hard drive. I've had bad hard drives that delivered this message when ripping.
I used Norton Disk Doctor to determine, but maybe others can suggest other programs to check hard drive integrity.
I had to buy a new hard drive in my case, and the problem went away.
