Just put together a decent new PC with ATI AIW 9600 XT and an IEEE 1394.
Capturing from Camcorder (Sony DCRTRV740 - Digital 8) is my main purpose.
PROBLEM:
I'm trying to use Pinnacle Studio Plus v9 to capture and edit my video.
For some reason, when I click on CAPTURE tab or CAPTURE SETTINGS the program generates exception and quits. I can capture video without problem in other programs... Ulead DVD Movie Factory, Sony Vegas etc.
Reading through support faq on pinnacle, they say it has something to do with having 2 cards, ATI and IEEE. Anyone have any help pointers? I want to resolve the reason for getting this error.
BACKGROUND:
I love Pinnacle Studio 8 due to great editing features, great transitions, nice control over audio tracks etc. Pinnacle also offers a lot of personalization in terms of being able to select the right parameters for the capture. I hate to use different software for capture and different for edit, but can do that if I have to.

If I can assume you want to transfer the DV from your mini DV (is it?) camcorder via firewire, WinDV is a little program that has been flawless for me. I often capture there then edit in pinnacle.
If you are capturing as mpeg, then Pinnacle is encoding on the fly and is something of a disaster for shutdowns when you "push it".
There's lots of other DV capture tools listed in the tools section her.
