i used to own a linksys befsr41 router, it wasnt a great router, but it was good enough.. i could open ports reliably, and download with good speeds.. then she died on me.. so i went and bought a similar one made network everywhere (aka linksys).. there is a model number, but its not important.. "network everywhere" only makes 1 router.

the setup is very similar to the previous router i had, so i thought everything would be okay.. it was not..

my torrent speeds are horrific.. i download at a max speed of about 325k/sec.. on torrents i get at best around 120-150k/sec..

my aol download speeds are terrible, 18k/sec.. the aol is a required work account, dont kill me for it

so i did a bit of testing, i connected my computer directly to my dsl modem.. it was like a different world.. torrent speeds were above 300k/sec easily (on a torrent i was downloading through the router minutes previously).. aol speeds shot up to 280k/sec..

i've tried and i've tried with this router.. its just a huge pain in the ass.. if i didnt use p2p, or torrents, or aol, everything would be fine and dandy.. but i enjoy & need to use some of those things while sharing access with the other computers & devices around my home..

which brings us to the next logical question.. what dsl/cable router should i buy? i'm considering going back to the linksys befsr41, they're pretty cheap, even new.. but there were a few things that bothered me about it, so i'd rather go with something else.. i'm not interested in a wireless router at all.. gigabit isnt important either.. i'd like to keep this at $50US or below.

    any suggestions, anyone?

I use a D-Link 704UP. It has the printer server included. It's pretty cheap and I have no complaints.

Also, have you tried rebooting the router? Unplug the power for a few minutes, then reconnect. I have to do this about once a month.
