My Seagate and WD drives were cooking in my PC - used a little app called DTEMP to get the temperature - they were both running at 41-42C. Mounted an extra 80mm fan in between them, blowing the heat out and away from the drives. Now, DTEMP reports 26C.![]()

I have 3 Maxtor 80GBs mounted together with a few mm clearance between. I just installed a new MB and hadn't hooked up the HD fan that is in front of the drives. I was amazed on how hot they got. Hooked up the fan and the surface temp dropped from about 60C to 35C. I'm sold on HD fans now.

Lumis - You might have to make sure the WD drive is set for S.M.A.R.T system monitoring in the bios of your system. Also, if your drive is hanging off of a third party PCI drive controller, DTEMP can't see it.

I dont really use a monitoring program for my hard drives. I have two drives:
Western Digital Raptor 74GB SATA
Seagate 160GB SATA
The two only have a couple of mm of space between them and the WD Raptor does get hot. However, I do have two 80mm fans in front of them in my Thermaltake XaserIII case for the cooling.
