  2. Whatever you use, I think you'll be mighty disappointed... most video is already compressed and you can't do much more with it. You may save a few megs (as in literally a few) per 700MB, and then you have to deal with waiting for the files to decompress... not an attractive option. Best thing is to buy a bigger hard drive (or store the stuff offline on DVDR).

Yes, as most video files are compressed to begin with, neither ZIP nor RAR nor any other lossless archive format will reduce the size much, if at all.

i concur, video files are already compressed.. compressing them again wont compress them anymore, maybe a little bit..

Why not just create and burn a data DVD, unless each file is over 4GB, you should only need 3 DVD's at most

That was my first thought too, but then I went:
"There are still those who don't have DVD writers - risky might be one of those..." But then I had a stroke of genius, and took a peek at riskys computer specs, and he/she's got a DVD writer...

The amount of compression you are going to see depends on the videos you are compressing. As mentioned, alot of videos will not gain much based on the codec used.

But I have seen some videos compress by more than 50% -- it really depends on the codec used in the videos you are trying to archive.
