  1. Does anyone know if there are any other programs similar to Kprobe that will scanning and test DVD media? I am looking to test the media for errors before burning. Kprobe only works on Lite-On DVD and CD Drives. Thanks in advance.

  3. Keep in mind you still need a drive that supports PI/PIF scanning. None of these programs will work with Pioneer or NEC.
Still a few bugs in the system...

DVDInfo Pro does PIE/PO scanning for DVDs (but not CDs) with Pioneer drives.

You best bet is to buy a cheap Lite-On DVD burner for reading burned DVDs and use KProbe for scanning, though. That seems to be the standard approach that most people have taken.

I was not aware of that change; thanks for the correction.

  7. Although DVDInfoPro DOES do PI/PO testing with Pioneer drives now, the Pioneer burners are not considered very accurate or reliable for doing such tests. Nero CD-DVD Speed's author was requested by Pioneer NOT to enable PI/PO testing with their drives by Nero CD-DVD Speed, that's why it doesn't support it.

  8. I would suggest the BenQ 1620 (or a clone) instead of a Liteon for testing. The BenQ 1620 is an outstanding burner and has very good media testing support including a utility called QScan which does non-destructive quality testing of blank media. It sets book type automatically and will burn a lot of 8x media at 12x or faster.

It is also supported by CD-DVD Speed and DVDInfo for PI/PIF error testing. It is also a very good value. NewEgg has the BenQ 1620 starting at $54 with free shipping.
