  1. Is it ok if while encoding DV to DVD or VCD using TMPGEnc you still play with your PC?

Because while im encoding I still can do other stuff. Not sure though if it has an effect on the result.

Maybe you can share your experience...Thanks

  2. the only effect it will have on your file is that it will take longer to encode. other than that, nothing will change

    Thanks.

  4. I guess you can still try and play with your pc but usually it will take up 100% of the CPU (unless you have a P4 where it seems to take up 50%) Although I have found I can stream DV from TV and encode to DVD at the same time (using an external DV encoder)

    Why would you think this?

It takes data from a file, works on it, and then puts it in another file.

If your operating system can't hand that while allowing other application to run, you've got real problems.

The type of processor does not matter. It's the speed of the processor and the disk access that affect the CPU usage. Most fast processors will not be 100% because the disk drives can't keep up.

  7. Doing something else whilst actually encoding is fine. If you are captureing or transferring DV via firewire, you may get dropped frames due to processor and disk load. If you are burning, disk activity can starve the burner of data and cause bad burns.

you should NEVER do anything with your computer whilst it's processing video files. if you do, evil Loa will possess your IRQ numbers. it's true i've seen it.
