Greetings,
If you are making your own miniDVD's, like I do, you probably will like it.
(Note: this solution only works for ATI DVD player. PowerDVD hates virtual miniDVD's).
MiniDVD's are great, having all the features of "real" DVD's on a $.20 cents media using your standard CD recorder.
There are, however, two problems. First, you can't put more than 18 minutes of high-quality MPEG2 on the CD. Second, very few stand-alone DVD players will play them. It was a big dissapointment for me to find out that my 300+1 Pioneer DV-F727 considers 'em just CD's and refuses to play.
OK here is the solution. You'll need Nero 5.5 and (the bigger the better) hard drive - that's it.
Nero 5.5 has a little program called Nero ImageDrive. This program will allow yo to add virtual SCSI CD-Rom to your system. Once you install it, everything else is easy.
Now, using Nero Burning ROM, make a new UDF CD. Grab your Audio_TS and Video_TS folders. Select Virtual recorder instead of your "regular" CD recorder. Name the file when prompted. Repeat it for every miniDVD you have.
Once you are done, go to Control Panel, select Nero ImageDrive and in the next dialog mount just created UDF CD image. Next, make sure you know hat letter drive is aasigned to your Nero CD-ROM drive. Run DVD Genie, assign drive letter to ATI player in the DVD Genie dialog, run ATI,
sit back and enjoy.
Same techic can be used for making your computer CD Audio changer, although I would questio economical reasons for this.
As of making changer of "real" DVD's, unfortunately Nero will not let you burn an image of UDF exceeding 750MB, at least in 5.5 version.
My configuration:
HTPC: clone made by myself, ABIT BX-133, Intel 1G, RAM 768MB, hard drives IBM 60GXP 60 (2), OS Win98 SE, Radeon AIW AGP, SoundBlaster 5.1 OEM, Toshiba cd-rw/dvd combo, Toshiba 16xDVD drive.
Monitor: Sony KP-61HS10
Receiver: Denon AVR-3801
DVD Player: Pioneer DV-F727
Best,
