QuEnc ... which will also require Avisynth (both are free)

Also NuEnc (modifed libavcodec) and HCEnc. There are also some other libavcodec based encoders and avidemux which I think uses MPEG2enc with XviD's rate control.

i like bbmpeg, i can access it straight from within premiere and its the only encoder i've tried in which the red channel doesn't bleed too badly into the rest of the picture. and of course its freeee!

  7. I have tried AviDemux and it works very very good !!!
VCD quality is ... but for SVCD it's not bad at all.

celtic_druid, do you have a suggestion for which encoder should I use for best MPEG2 results? should I keep try to make it with QuEnc ?

Well NuEnc and HCEnc also require YV12 input and AVDemux doesn't accept AVISynth input.

MPEG2Enc is quite slow. NuEnc or HCEnc will be faster. Stock libavcodec still has issues with rate control.

  9. Hi celtic_druid,

the AviDemux has 2 SVCD Encoders, one of them is very very slow but the other is quite fast and the quality is very very good !

the fast encoder of AviDemux is: FFMPEG MPEG2 Encoder.

So what you think should I use?
the Quenc\Nuenc\HCEnc or the AviDemux ?

Exactly libavcodec which QuEnc also uses along with mencoder, ffmpeg and yes FreeEnc. DivXtoDVD also seems to use libavcodec although I am not sure for input, output or both.

Reason why I mentioned HCEnc AVIDemux and HuEnc is because they are free and don't use stock libavcodec. Quality for QuEnc, etc. should all be the same as should the encoding speed.

QuEnc also converts audio to 2 channel ac3. Latest version encoding is excellent-you can create avisynth files without writing any script with VirtualdubMOD and FitCD (of course, after installing avisynth 2.5.x)
