  1. I am a complete novice at doing video capture, so please bear with me...

I am getting intermittant pops and a slight hum on my audio track when
doing VHS captures with my computer. Here's my set-up:

    Panasonic AG-1980 VCR
    Canopus MVR-1000 capture card
    Athlon 1900 XP, K7S5A, 1 GB, Win2K

Physical set up is: VCR next to computer next to monitor

I'm using the S-video ports for the video, and RCA jacks for the audio.
The S-video cable is a very high-quality shielded cable, but there's nothing
special about the RCA cable pair.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? Will better RCA
cables solve the problem, or is there just too much electrical
interference inside (or outside) my computer?

    Thanks,

  2. Can you try a differnet vcr? I know the Panasonic is a good one but perhaps it's aged and needs a tune up?

I had a VCR that was missing the "metal" plugs for the audio.

I had once used gold plated RCA stereo cords that fit VERY tight and when I pulled them out they pulled out the "metal" plug!

I used different cables and it seemed to work when attached to my stereo but when I tried to capture to my computer with that VCR I would get a very annoying loud humming noise.

The solution for me was to just use another VCR with metal plugs in place as they should be hehehe
