CD-RW GCE-8523B locked to PIO problem.

hi,
I need some help here
I have LG CD-RW GCE-8523B burner that sometimes its locked to PIO mode only, and I have to use Windows Restore to a previous checkpoint when it was working in UDMA 2.
the problem is this is not a convenient way because Windows Restore return things to a previous state that sometimes erase or uninstall a preferable programs or data.
please help!
my system:
Windows XP pro SP2

from within device manager
disk controllers
right click on channel that burner is located on
choose properties
change the setting "use dma if available" to pio only for that device

hi I think you misunderstood me,
I was asking for: Why my burner is locked to PIO only mode even though its have been set to "Use DMA if available" !!
well after searching that consumed a lot of my Dial-Up time,
