Upgraded my computer recently and when I rip dvd's to the HD, some are stored with, what looks like, a scattering of pixels. Actaully at times it likes these pixelated bars, like part of the picture is out fo sync or something.. The thing that confuses me is that when I rip it with dvd decrypter it mentions no error and finishes with OK.
On my old computer if the original dvd was scratched dvd decrypter would pop up an error box giving me the choice to resume quit or ignore. With my new machine this doesn't happen it just seems to rip the dvd, and when I go to play back there is this scattering effect at times. Can someone help me out with this, if the original is scratched and can't be read propoerly I would like to know ahead of time somehow... before I transcode and burn to dvd and waste a blank...
Thanks,
rhuala

Check your DVD Decryper settings to make sure 'Ignore Read Errors' isn't checked. Even if it was, you would still see a rising error count, I believe.
Does this same thing happen if you play back the original disk ?
What if you burn it to an RW ? Will it play on your player OK ?Read my blog here.

Hey guns1inger,
In respsonse to your queries:
- Does not happen when playing back original disk
- Doesn't matter if its an RW will look the exact same. Actually if I play the movie from the HD it still looks bad.
One thing I'm almost thinking is maybe it has to do with my new SATA HD, maybe dvd decrypter is reading it fine, but my HD is creating errors when it writes. Not sure how to really test or verify this, just a hunch at this point...

Finally found my problem, it's my SATA hd !!!!!!! grrrr #$#$%^@#$%@@ piece of #$@$@%#@#$
Anything I ripped to it had flaws, little hard to detect ones. This also is the cause of another post I had about having problems with Battlestar Galactica mini series, all cause of the SATA HD. If you have a SATA HD be wary is all I can say, piece of fricken crap. It's a Samsung 160GB by the way, suppose to be top of the line new technology, using with my nForce4 mobo...
Every program I have installed on it works fine, only seems dvd rips are an issue, it creates these little hard to detect flaws, I almost wonder if this is intentional....
Dam I'm pissed bought the latest mobo, hd and vid card and my 5 year old machine is all I can use to rip and burn dvd's, can't believe this crap... should have waited a year before touching this new tech....
Anyways, just felt like venting...
