If you have an E85H, you might want to check this out:

I don't own one of these units, so I don't have the same problems.

  2. Great find! Do you mind reposting this on the “Panasonic Tips and Tricks” thread?

I was originally going to return my E85 when I heard about this error and then I found someone on another forum (the person who wrote the article at the above link) who was able to talk Panasonic into giving him the upgrade disc. So I kept my E85 and used this upgrade. Worked perfectly for anyone who is wondering.

I'd write to the author first but I tried to add this into the Panasonic Tips section but my ISP wouldn't connect. Go ahead and add it. Now I'm hoping we can get some firmware hacks going since it seems the Japanese don't have any (I've visited a ton of their websites and found nada)...

  5. What a great find! I was hoping firmware would be available to address this issue. However, is it just me or is the link to the firmware now dead? All I get is:

    HTTP/1.0 404 Object Not Found

    Anyone else have a copy?

    Thanks,

The link is still working fine for me...

If you continue to have trouble with it you can pm me and I can give you the e-mail address of the person who put the file up for download. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. He was very helpful to me.

Thank you for your offer ann. A friend who downloaded it for himself has passed it along to me. Glad to have it!

  8. While I was browsing the TVGuide listings my unit locked up (all the colors in the TVGuide turn neon and corrupted looking and the unit will not respond correctly). It did that once before when I first got it, but has behaved well for the past 7 weeks. So, I did the reset procedure and it came back to life just fine. Being curious, I went into the SERVICE MODE after reviving it and checked my firmware revision. It was ancient: 0850DL. (My unit has a build date of April 8, 2004.) So, I went ahead and flashed to the 0970DL firmware that was passed along here. I followed the directions as stated on the page referred to above in the thread and it went perfectly. The display explains what it is doing as it goes through each step, and eventually the tray opens so you can remove the CD. For about 2 minutes it sits there with the tray open (kind of making you wonder if it all went aok, but the display will keep flashing "UPGD OK" to keep your heart rate down a bit), then it closes up and shuts down. When you power up you are good to go. So, again I thank the members here for steering me to the upgraded firmware. Who knows, in addition to preventing a U99 error, maybe it will be more resistant to lockup. I don't think Panasonic would be as helpful. In my view Panasonic would do themselves a favor by making firmware available for download to end users (like Philips), but I guess that is not part of their business model.

    Regards,
