I've been using this guide, https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm to try to encode my DivX/Avi files to a format that I can author them using DVDAuthorGUI or TMPGEnc DVD Author. It says that if you are using .avi files with Ac3 audio (which I mostly am) then you need the AC3 ACM Decompressor. Is this a piece of software that is needed to decompress AC3 audio with another program(such as i need this in order to use Virtual dub to extract the Ac3 audio into a wav file)? or is the AC3 ACM Decompressor the actual program itself. Because when I install it, nothing happens. I dont get a program in the start menu or program files or anything, after I click the install button, something flashes(like the progress bar but its real fast) then its back to normal as if I didnt do anything.

Also, using TMPGEnc, how would I encode a movie that was broken into two or three .avi files with ac3? It seems that I can only do one file at a time. Is there anyway to do all two or three files at the same time to ensure that they will all fit onto one dvd?

If you have an AVI with AC3 audio, just use virtualdubmod to extract the AC3 sound.

    Open virtualdubmod.
Go to File > Open, and open your AVI.
Go to streams > stream list, and click the demux button. This should save the AC3 audio out a new file for you.
Encode you AVI video only with your favorite MPEG Encoder, and then multiplex (join) your extracted AC3 into the video MPEG, either as a process on its own or let your authoring software take care of it for you.

Similar method for multiple files - just do each one spearately (you can set up batch processing in your MPEG encoder if you wish). The key to making them all fit on one DVD is to use a Bitrate Calculator, and input the total running time of all three clips into it. Select the audio bitrate you're using, and it will tell you what video bitrate to use. There's some good tips regarding bitrate and what frame size to use for what bitrate in this guide.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. SEALs1230,

As for encoding multiple input files to single output file in TMPGEnc - select "Open sequence files as a movie" under Enviornmental Settings > General.

Make sure your input files are sequentially named as "File1.avi", "File2.avi" ... Load the first file to encode and start encoding. TMPGEnc will automatically read the next file and so on and encode it to whatever output filename you mention. Though the main screen will continue to show the first file as input. The output file will be one big mpeg file.

    Hi
Thanks for the guides. So far they have helped alot. I was using this one: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/186739.php#2 In section three, converting to MPEG, I got confused about when it says to load something. "2. Click Load and
Load the DVD NTSC template if the source FPS is 23,976 or 29,976 (the FPS from Gspot)
Load the DVD PAL template if the source FPS is 25 (the FPS from Gspot)."
When I click the load button a browser comes up. What should I be looking for to load??
